· Technology Business Incubators have the broad objective of promoting knowledge-based and innovation-driven enterprises in the country.

· The Periyar Technology Business Incubator, a grant-in-aid project of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India through its National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board was established in the year 2006 to specialize in herbal medicine, the nature’s gift to human health

· In view of the great resurgence of interest in the use of medicinal plants, the Periyar Technology Business Incubator has chosen the important area of herbal health to wok on. Many traditional plant-based therapies are back in use and find increasing applications.

· While the demand of herbal products is increasing globally, India’s share in the international market is less than 0.3%. The small and medium scale sector in India is expected to play a major role in the growth of this industry.

· Considering the prevailing agro climate in the region and the popular practice of naturopathy and herbal medicine traditionally, among the local population, the Periyar Technology Business Incubator is well poised to grow as a successful health care initiative.

To emerge as a highly successful Technology Business Incubator, by continuously promoting technological, managerial and entrepreneurial skills of existing SMEs, potential entrepreneurs and graduating students thereby contribute to the improvement of quality of life of all people.

The TBI shall focus on the identification and development of marketable and sustainable technologies in health care products & services and transferring them to potential entrepreneurs for the benefit of the community at large. In order to be able to do that the TBI shall

· Identify, develop and exploit technology assets.

· Coordinate with premier academic institutions and R&D establishments in India and abroad and provide new opportunities for product and process developments to entrepreneurs and small business operators.

· Design and offer hi tech programmes for technological promotion and offering specialized services to upgrade the skills of existing SMEs.

· Foster the entrepreneurial spirit through matching external opportunities with internal capabilities and resources among youth and women groups.

· Cater to the focus group of weaker sections and help them generate income.

· Encourage graduating students to go for self-employment and generate employment for others.

· To facilitate the creation and development of technology driven new enterprises, value added jobs and services in herbal health care sector.

· To create awareness on Self employment and entrepreneurship

· To help the unemployed graduates and graduating students to enter into production of herbal medicines and providing health care services

· To inculcate a sense of pride and facilitate starting of small enterprises in health care products and services by rural women

· To provide inputs for successful operations of existing SMEs in herbal health care.

· To Translate its vision and mission into actions by deploying new tools of technology transfer and speedy commercialization of R&D outputs.

· To equip the existing and potential entrepreneurs with modern management skills in accounting, financial, personnel, and marketing including training in matters relating to business law.
